Nursing

Programme Overview

Caring for patients with cardiac conditions requires timely assessment, close monitoring, sound clinical judgement and confident teamwork. This 12-week certificate course is designed to help nurses strengthen these essential capabilities across cardiac wards, CCUs, cath labs and emergency care settings.

Through short self-paced modules, case-based learning and a one-day hands-on contact programme, participants will develop practical skills in cardiac assessment, ECG monitoring, medication safety, emergency response, post-procedure care, rehabilitation and patient education.

The programme focuses on knowledge and skills that nurses can apply at the bedside - recognising early deterioration, communicating concerns clearly, supporting timely escalation and delivering safe, compassionate, evidence-informed cardiac care.

What will you learn?

  • Perform focused cardiac assessment and identify important warning signs
  • Monitor cardiac patients safely and recognise clinically significant ECG changes
  • Respond promptly and effectively to common cardiac emergencies
  • Provide safe nursing care before and after cardiac procedures
  • Administer and monitor commonly used cardiac medicines with greater confidence
  • Educate patients and families about medicines, lifestyle, rehabilitation and follow-up
  • Document accurately and communicate effectively within the multidisciplinary team

Eligibility

GNM, BSc Nursing or MSc Nursing with clinical experience. The programme is especially relevant for nurses working in a Cardiac ICU, CCU, Cath Lab, Emergency Department or Cardiology Ward. Nurses from other clinical areas who wish to build cardiac nursing competencies may also apply.
